Scottish giants Celtic have confirmed the signing of Nigeria international Kelechi Iheanacho on a one-year contract, with an option for a further year, Bold Sports reports.

The club announced the deal which is subject to international clearance on its website Tuesday evening after Iheanacho had earlier parted ways with La Liga side Sevilla on Monday.

The Super Eagles striker will now be reunited with Brendan Rodgers who was his manager at Premier League side Leicester City.

Iheanacho, 28, began his professional career at Manchester City, where he won the League Cup before moving to Leicester City, making more than 200 appearances for the Foxes and lifting the FA Cup in 2021.

The Super Eagles forward joined Sevilla in 2024 and later spent the end of the 2024/25 season on loan at English Championship side Middlesbrough.

He has also been a regular for Nigeria, earning nearly 60 caps and playing a key role in the Super Eagles’ run to the Africa Cup of Nations final in 2023.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, who worked with Iheanacho at Leicester, hailed the striker’s arrival.

“I know Kelechi so well and what he can bring to the team,” Rodgers said. “He is such a talented player, with great ability, athleticism and work-rate.

“I am sure he will love being at Celtic and I believe our fans will love what he brings. He has great experience and he is right in his peak years so he can be a great signing for us. I am sure he will make a big contribution to the team.”
