Nigeria’s Flying Eagles booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2026 WAFU B U20 Championship after cruising to a commanding 3-0 victory over Togo in their second Group B match on Thursday.
The result ensured Abdu Maikaba’s side maintained their perfect start to the tournament, following their thrilling 4-2 victory over Ghana in the opening game, and confirmed qualification for the last four with one group fixture still to play.
Forward Abdulmuiz Adeleke was once again the star of the show, scoring twice for the second consecutive match after his brace against Ghana, while substitute Abdoulaye Agbegoye added a late third to complete an emphatic victory.
The Flying Eagles enjoyed much of the possession in the opening half but found the Togolese Sparrow Hawks difficult to break down. Despite Nigeria’s early dominance, they were almost punished in the 38th minute when Togo squandered a glorious opportunity, firing wide after catching the Flying Eagles off guard.

The contest became increasingly open in the closing stages of the first half, with both teams creating attacking opportunities, but neither side was able to find the breakthrough before the interval.
Nigeria finally broke the deadlock just one minute after the restart when Adeleke finished clinically to give the Flying Eagles the lead and continue his impressive goalscoring form in the competition.
The in-form striker doubled Nigeria’s advantage 12 minutes later with a moment of individual brilliance. Racing through on goal, Adeleke calmly beat the Togolese goalkeeper before slotting home to register his fourth goal of the tournament and complete his second consecutive brace.
With the result firmly under control, Maikaba introduced fresh legs, and one of his substitutes made an immediate impact.
Agbegoye, who replaced Adeleke in the 58th minute, put the icing on the cake in the 85th minute, finding the net to seal Nigeria’s second straight victory of the tournament.
The Flying Eagles now sit comfortably at the top of Group B and have secured a place in the semi-finals with a game to spare.
Nigeria will conclude their group-stage campaign against Burkina Faso on Sunday as they look to maintain their perfect record and carry winning momentum into the knockout stages.
