Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is now fit and available for Nigeria’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after recovering from an injury scare that initially threatened his involvement, Bold Sports reports.
The 29-year-old had sparked concerns after being stretchered off in the 35th minute during Chippa United’s league clash against Richards Bay. However, Nwabali made a timely return to action on Sunday, featuring in Chippa United’s 3-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
Despite the loss, his availability comes as a major relief for Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, who included Nwabali in his final 23-man squad for Nigeria’s crucial World Cup qualifiers.

The goalkeeper’s presence in the match justifies Chelle’s decision to retain faith in the Chippa United shot-stopper, despite initial fears he could miss the international fixtures.
Meanwhile, the 3-0 defeat leaves Chippa United rooted to the bottom of the South African Premier Division table with just one point from five games, while Orlando Pirates climbed to fifth place with nine points.
Nigeria face a defining period in their World Cup qualification campaign, beginning with a home clash against Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. The Super Eagles will then travel to Bloemfontein to take on rivals South Africa.
With the Super Eagles needing maximum points to strengthen their qualification hopes, Nwabali’s return provides a significant boost between the sticks as Nigeria prepare for two crucial fixtures.
