Nigeria’s D’Tigers will be aiming to seal an automatic ticket to the quarterfinals of the ongoing FIBA Afrobasket 2025 when they face Cameroon in their final Group B game on Sunday at the Pavilhao Multiusos de Luanda, Angola. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m. (Nigeria time), according to Bold Sports.

Both sides remain unbeaten after claiming wins against the same opponents, Tunisia and Madagascar. Nigeria opened their campaign with a 77-59 victory over Madagascar before overpowering Tunisia 87-66 in their second outing.

Cameroon, meanwhile, cruised past Tunisia 86-65 in their opener but had to dig deep against Madagascar, edging them 80-77 courtesy of a late basket, setting up a decisive clash with Nigeria.

Victory for either team guarantees direct passage to the quarterfinals along with a crucial two-day rest before the knockout phase begins on August 20. The loser will have to navigate the quarterfinal qualification pathway.

D’Tigers will need to keep a close eye on Cameroon’s offensive threats, particularly shooting guard Jeremiah Hill, who is averaging 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game. Power forward Williams Nerance has also been influential, averaging 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.

Nigeria currently tops Group B, having scored 15 more points than Cameroon in their first two games. In the group’s other clash, Tunisia and Madagascar will battle for a chance to finish as one of the best third-placed teams and stay in contention through the qualification round.

History slightly favors Nigeria in this rivalry. In their last three Afrobasket meetings, D’Tigers hold a 2-1 edge.

Cameroon’s last victory came in the 2009 Afrobasket quarterfinals with an 84-80 win. Since then, Nigeria has dominated, defeating its Central African rivals 91-84 at the 2013 group stage and 106-91 in the 2017 edition.
