Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare will be aiming to get off the mark for the new season when KRC Genk visit Standard Liège at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne today, Bold Sports reports.
The Nigerian has so far featured as a substitute in both of Genk’s league matches this term, coming on in the 70th minute against Club Brugge on the opening day and in the 72nd minute against Royal Antwerp in their second outing.
Despite an early strike from South Korean forward Hyun-Gyu Oh in their first game, Genk have endured a sluggish start, losing 2-1 to Club Brugge before a late equaliser from Zakaria El Ouahdi salvaged a point against Antwerp.
With results not going their way, head coach Thorsten Fink may be tempted to hand Arokodare his first start of the campaign. The striker topped the league’s scoring charts last season with 21 goals.

Arokodare also has a strong record against Standard Liège, having scored twice against them last season — once in the Belgian Cup to eliminate them in the Round of 16, and again in the league to seal a 2-1 victory for Genk.
Standard, meanwhile, are unbeaten in their opening two league fixtures, following up a 2-0 win over RAAL La Louvière with a 1-1 draw against FCV Dender.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Fink told reporters: “No team likes playing at Standard. For us, it’s a derby, of course, the perfect match to grab our first three points and satisfy the supporters.
“We want to gain confidence in the upcoming matches, because there are important matches coming up, both in the league and in Europe. In two weeks, we’ll be fighting for a spot in the UEFA Europa League, a highly regarded goal for a top club like KRC Genk. We’ll stay calm and always focus on the next match, which is Sunday against Standard Liège.”
