Super Falcons midfielder Christy Ucheibe is confident Nigeria will emerge champions of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) when they face hosts Morocco in Saturday’s final at Rabat’s Olympic Stadium.
The match is a rematch of the dramatic 2022 semifinal, where Nigeria, reduced to nine players following red cards to Halimatu Ayinde in the 48th minute and Rasheedat Ajibade in the 71st, took Morocco to extra time and penalties before losing 5-4 in the shootout. The game had ended 1-1 after regulation time.
Ucheibe, who plays for Portuguese champions Benfica, acknowledges the strength of the Moroccan side but remains optimistic that the Super Falcons will come out on top.
“Nigerians should expect a tough fight from us, and also expect a tough fight from the Moroccans,” Okafor told sports journalist Ademola Victor in Morocco. “It’s not going to be an easy game, but with God, everything is possible.”

She added, “It’s going to be a different ball game. In the last WAFCON in 2022, even with nine players, we put up a strong fight. Now that we’ll have a full team on the pitch, we’re ready to give them an even better challenge.”
The Super Falcons have enjoyed solid support throughout the tournament in Casablanca, and Ucheibe assured fans that the team is determined to reward their loyalty.
“Thanks to everyone for the incredible support,” she said. “One thing I want to say is that you should rest assured—we’re bringing the trophy back to you by God’s grace. We’re going to show the strength and resilience that Nigerians are known for.”
