Tunisia head coach Kamel Saada has described Nigeria as the team to beat at the upcoming 2024 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, acknowledging the Super Falcons’ dominance as his side prepares for a tough Group B opener.
Speaking in an interview with CAFOnline, Saada acknowledged the pedigree of Nigeria’s Super Falcons, describing them as a team whose quality is known across the continent.
“It’s a tough group,” he said. “Everyone knows the quality of Nigeria. Algeria is improving fast. Botswana too. We’re not underestimating anyone. We’ll need to be disciplined, focused, and play our best football.”

Tunisia will open their campaign in a group that many consider the ‘group of death’, but Saada remains confident in his team’s preparation and structure. Having taken charge in July 2024, the former youth coach is overseeing a generational transition, blending experienced players like Mariem Houij and Chaima Abbassi with new talents from the U-17, U-20, and U-21 ranks.
His goal is to build a competitive team not just for this tournament, but for the long term.
“We’re preparing match by match with attention to physical, tactical, and mental aspects. All players are present. The mindset is good,” he said. “The team that plays smart, cohesive football can pull off surprises.”

Tunisia reached the quarterfinals in the last edition of WAFCON in 2022 but narrowly missed out on a semifinal spot. Saada is banking on the veterans to pass on that experience to the new generation.
“They share their stories, offer motivation, and emphasize the details that make the difference: focus, commitment from the first match, the importance of the final minutes,” he said.
Tunisia will face Nigeria, Algeria, and Botswana in Group B of WAFCON 2024, which kicks off in Morocco from July 5 to 26.
