Leicester City, home to Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, have parted ways with first-team manager Ruud van Nistelrooy by mutual agreement, Bold Sports reports.
Van Nistelrooy took charge of Leicester City in November 2024 following the dismissal of former manager Steve Cooper. He secured his first victory shortly after, guiding the team to a 3-1 win over West Ham United.
However, the team struggled in the subsequent period, managing just one draw and suffering seven defeats in their next eight Premier League fixtures. They briefly bounced back with an away win over Tottenham but later set an unfortunate Premier League record by becoming the first side in Football League history to lose nine consecutive home games without scoring a goal.
Leicester’s relegation was confirmed after a heavy 3-0 defeat to Newcastle United at the King Power Stadium, a result that marked their 11th home loss of the league season — the worst in the club’s history. The Foxes finished the season in 18th place with just 25 points.

Van Nistelrooy’s exit was confirmed in an official statement released by the club on Friday morning: “Leicester City Football Club and Ruud van Nistelrooy have mutually agreed that Ruud’s contract with the Club as First Team Manager will terminate with immediate effect,” the statement read.
The club added: “Ruud has overseen a challenging period for the Club. From his appointment in November 2024, he approached the role with professionalism, integrity and a clear commitment to our aims, including through the integration of several promising players from the Club’s Academy into our First Team environment. Ruud moves on with the respect and thanks of everyone at the Football Club for his dedication and hard work, and with our very best wishes for the future.”
Van Nistelrooy also expressed his gratitude in his farewell message: “I would like to personally thank the Leicester City players, coaches, academy and all the staff I have worked with for their professionalism and dedication during my time at the Club and to thank the fans for their support, and take this opportunity to wish the Club well for the future.”
The club confirmed that preparations for the upcoming EFL Championship campaign will continue as scheduled, with pre-season training set to commence on Monday, June 30. Until a new manager is appointed, the current first-team coaching staff will lead the team’s preparations.

“Preparation for the EFL Championship season will continue with the planned start of pre-season on Monday 30 June. First Team coaching staff will oversee the delivery of those plans until a new manager is appointed,” the statement concluded.
Meanwhile, Wilfred Ndidi’s future at Leicester City remains uncertain, particularly with his £9 million relegation release clause which makes a summer exit possible.
Despite the club’s recent struggles, Ndidi has enjoyed notable success at Leicester, having played a pivotal role in their historic FA Cup triumph, their Community Shield victory, and their Championship title-winning season.
