Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan returned to winning ways on Tuesday evening with a commanding victory in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Golden Spike Ostrava meet, clocking 12.45s.

The world record holder left the field behind, finishing comfortably ahead of Viktória Forster of Slovakia (12.74s) and Sarah Lavin of Ireland (12.76s), who both ran season’s bests but were no match for the Nigerian.

This win marks Amusan’s second victory of the 2025 season, coming just days after a strong performance at the Paris Diamond League, where she placed second with a blistering 12.24s — her season’s best and the fourth-fastest time in the world this year.

The 27-year-old hurdler is clearly hitting her stride as she builds up towards the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, scheduled for September. Amusan, who famously won gold and set a world record of 12.12s at the 2022 World Championships, is steadily regaining peak form.

Since opening her season with a 12.74s finish in Xiamen, Amusan has shown steady improvement in every race. She followed that with 12.66s in Doha, 12.53s in Kingston, and then dipped to 12.45s in Atlanta. Her most outstanding performance so far came in Paris, where she clocked 12.24s — her second-fastest time ever and a clear signal of her return to top form.

With less than three months to go before Tokyo, Amusan is one of the medal contenders in the women’s 100m hurdles. She will face stiff competition from a strong American contingent led by Masai Russell, the reigning Olympic champion, who tops the 2025 world list with 12.17s. Tia Jones has also impressed with a 12.19s run, while Grace Stark, who edged out Amusan in Paris, clocked 12.21s to become another serious threat. Outside the U.S., Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medallist Jasmine Camacho-Quinn and Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent remain formidable forces with their experience and consistency on the global stage.

Amusan’s current form, combined with her championship pedigree, makes her a top name to watch as the world’s best hurdlers prepare to clash in Tokyo this September.
