Super Eagles fullback Bruno Onyemaechi has expressed his excitement at the prospect of making his UEFA Champions League debut, following Olympiacos’ qualification for the tournament after clinching the Greek Super League title.

Onyemaechi, who joined Olympiacos from Portuguese side Boavista in January, featured in nine league matches during the second half of the season, helping the club secure their first domestic title since the 2021–22 campaign.

The Greek champions added more silverware to their cabinet by winning the Greek Cup, defeating OFI Crete 2–0 to complete their 19th domestic double and secure a 29th Cup triumph. The victory marked Onyemaechi’s second trophy with the club in just five months.

Speaking in an interview with TVC News Nigeria, the 25-year-old fullback shared his enthusiasm about playing in the Champions League, while expressing his hope of staying fit ahead of the new season.

“It’s a very big season cause I’ll be playing in the Champions League for the first time. I’m looking forward to this, I hope I’m prepared for it and I hope I’m injury free also,” he said.

Onyemaechi spoke on Nigeria’s crucial upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers, stressing the importance of winning every match to secure a place at the 2026 tournament.

“Talking about the World Cup, we have very important games that we need to win. We know it’s difficult but we are professionals, we need to do our job. We know the pressure is there, we need to forget about that and try to win these two games and qualify for the World Cup.”

“Nigeria is a big nation, it’s a big shame if we don’t qualify for the World Cup so we will do our best to get the ticket.”

Onyemaechi further backed Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, describing him as the right person to lead the team: “ In the two months I’ve worked with him, I can say he’s the right guy for the job. There’s noise outside saying he doesn’t know what he’s doing, but if you come closer, you’ll know he’s the right guy for the job.”
