Victor Osimhen will be hoping to score his first goal against traditional Serie A giants Inter Milan when table toppers Napoli visit Stadio Giuseppe Meazza tonight for a match day 16 encounter.
Tonight’s game would be the fourth time the Nigeria international would be playing against Inter but he is yet to find the back of the net against them. He made one appearance against the Nerazzurri in the 2020/21 season and twice in the 2021/22 season.
Osimhen’s form this season has been instrumental to Napoli sitting top of the table while he is also the league’s top scorer with nine goals from 11 games despite playing two games less than second placed Marko Arnautovic who has eight goals from 13 matches. The Nigerian is one of the most feared and sought after strikers in the Serie A and Europe and Inter’s defence would be wary of his pace, agility and doggedness.
Despite his impressive performance since moving to Italy in the 2020/21 campaign, Osimhen has failed to find the back of the net against Serie A top clubs such as Juventus (three meetings), Inter Milan (three meetings) and AC Milan (three meetings).
Inter will once again try to make things difficult for the Nigerian on the pitch. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, coach Simone Inzaghi will designate Francesco Acerbi permanently on the striker while Milan Skriniar and Alessandro Bastoni have also been instructed to keep an eye on the Napoli frontman especially when he makes his way into the box and during corner kicks.
Napoli are currently the highest-scoring team in Serie A with 37 goals and they are also the only unbeaten team in Europe’s top five leagues.
