USA hammer D’Tigress 100-46 in Olympics qualifiers

World No. 1 the United States put up a shooting masterclass to blowout D’Tigress by 54 points earning a 100-46 win over Nigeria in their second game of the FIBA Women Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Antwerp, Belgium.

The United States who needed a last-stretch tap-in to beat European champions Belgium on Thursday had no problems at all with the African champions dominating the game from the tip-off.

Sarah Ogoke got the game started making her traditional three-point shot but D’Tigress never got off the mark in the game. The world No. 1 got into the game taking the first quarter 19-13.

The United States put up a shooting masterclass in the second quarter outscoring Nigeria 32-7 to extend their lead and go into the halftime break with a 31-point lead blowing D’Tigress out of the water and closing out the first half 51-20.

Nigeria was in a turnover problem in the first half and the United States scored 16 points off that. Jewel Lyod had 13 points at the end of the first half making 5 of 7 field goals and ended with a game-high 18 points.

Promise Amukamara

Rhyne Howard had 14 points while Napheesha Collier contributed 13 points. 

Mujarnatu Musa was the only D’Tigress player who finished with double figures in points. Amy Okonkwo had nine points while Promise Amukamara and Elizabeth Balogun both contributed six points apiece. 

Nigeria will face European champions and hosts Belgium in their final qualifying game on Sunday.
