Super Eagles captain William Troost Ekong’s impressive performance at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations has caught the attention of top Saudi Arabia clubs, according to respected football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Saudi clubs would be looking to snap up the 30-year-old former Watford player in the summer.
William Troost-Ekong has cemented his position as one of the best defensive players at the AFCON leading Nigeria’s defense which has conceded the least goals in the competition.
Nigeria has only conceded two goals in six AFCON games so far with only one of them coming from open play. His command of the defense alongside West Brom defender Semi Ajayi, Nottingham Forest’s Ola Aina, Fulham’s Calvin Bassey, and FC Porto’s Zaidu Sanusi has been one of the hottest topics at the tournament.
Troost-Ekong has been a mainstay for Greek side PAOK this season completing 90 minutes in nine out of 10 games he’s featured in helping his side sit top of the table.
Fabrizio in a post on microblogging site X formally Twitter wrote, “Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong caught the attention of clubs in Saudi due to his impressive performances in the AFCON.
“He’s been leading PAOK to the top of the Greek Super League and Europe Conference League, he’s very happy there — but the Saudi interest for summer is strong.”
Aside from Troost-Ekong, interest in Ajayi would also spring up after his outstanding performance in the competition. Both players would line up for Nigeria on Sunday against hosts Ivory Coast in the final of the AFCON.
