Swedish club BK Häcken have completed the signing of Super Falcons striker Joy Omewa on a three-year contract that will keep her at the club until 2029.

The 23-year-old joins the Damallsvenskan side after the expiration of her short-term contract with Women’s Super League 2 outfit Nottingham Forest, where she spent the second half of the 2025/26 season. During her stint with Forest, Omewa scored three goals in nine appearances.

Before her move to England, the Nigerian forward enjoyed a prolific five-year spell with Danish club Fortuna Hjørring, making 95 appearances and scoring 59 goals across all competitions.

Omewa’s standout campaign came in the 2024/25 season when she netted 22 goals in 24 league matches to finish as the Danish Women’s League’s top scorer. Her performances also earned her the Player of the Season award as she helped Fortuna Hjørring secure a domestic league and cup double.

Her impressive club form paved the way for her international breakthrough, with Omewa making her Super Falcons debut in October 2025. She came off the bench in Nigeria’s 2-0 away victory over Benin in a qualifier for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The striker has continued her rise on the international stage, scoring her first two goals for Nigeria in the Super Falcons’ 3-0 pre-WAFCON friendly win over Senegal. Her performances were rewarded with a place in Justin Madugu’s final 25-player squad for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, which begins on Sunday.

Speaking after the transfer was confirmed, BK Häcken Football Director Martin Ericsson expressed confidence in the Nigerian’s qualities.

“Joy is a physically dominant player with a lot of power, but also a striker who is involved in the game and a killer in the box. Her instinct for scoring goals is clear and she is always looking for the next opportunity,” Ericsson said.

“Joy will bring us energy both on and off the pitch with her personality and her drive to win and score goals. We look forward to her joining us after the African Championships.”

Omewa also expressed her excitement about the move, describing BK Häcken as the ideal environment for her development.

“I know that BK Häcken is a fantastic club that helps its talents develop. I feel that this is the right place for me,” she said.

“I want to contribute with joy, just like my name,” Omewa added.
