Nigerian midfielder Samson Tijani has joined FK Železiarne Podbrezová on loan from Dukla Prague. The Slovak Super Liga club confirmed the move on a one-year deal. The agreement also includes a two-year option for a permanent transfer, Bold Sports reports.
Tijani recently returned to Nigeria’s senior squad for the 2026 Unity Cup. He started both matches as the Super Eagles successfully defended their title. That international involvement adds to his recent experience ahead of his move to Slovakia.
Tijani adds fresh experience to Podbrezová midfield
The 23-year-old midfielder began his football journey with Collins Edwin Sports Club academy in Lagos. He moved to Austria at 18. Red Bull Salzburg then gave him the chance to develop at one of Europe’s notable youth systems.
Tijani made several first-team appearances for Salzburg. He also celebrated the Austrian league and domestic cup double in 2021/22.
His European experience later expanded through several loan spells. He played for Hartberg and Wolfsberger in Austria. He also joined Norwegian club Fredrikstad.
With Fredrikstad, Tijani won the domestic cup. He also featured for FC Liefering during his time in Austria.
The midfielder also experienced Champions League football. In March 2022, he played against Bayern Munich in the round of 16.
From Dukla Prague to Slovakia
Tijani joined Dukla Prague in June 2025. He moved to the Czech club as a free agent after leaving Salzburg.
He quickly became an important player for Dukla. He made 26 appearances in the Czech top flight.

His latest move now takes him to another European league. Podbrezová will have the chance to keep him permanently after the loan.
General manager Miroslav Poliaček highlighted Tijani’s qualities.
“He is a player of ideal football age and represents a different typology than what we have had in the squad so far. He is a creative and dynamic midfielder who will bring the necessary impulse and quality to the midfield. Samson is also part of the wider Nigerian national team, which says it all. I believe that he will fully show his qualities on the pitch and help the team. I wish him the best of luck with us,”
Nigeria experience
Tijani has represented Nigeria at several levels. He featured for the Golden Eaglets at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil.
He later progressed to the senior national team. His Super Eagles debut came against Algeria in 2020.
Tijani has earned three senior international caps. His latest international involvement came during the 2026 Unity Cup in London.
Now, he begins another chapter in Slovakia. Podbrezová will hope his creativity and midfield energy can strengthen their squad.
