Galatasaray have confirmed that Victor Osimhen suffered a groin injury during their 3-2 victory over Başakşehir FK. The Nigerian striker felt discomfort in his right adductor muscle group during Friday’s Trendyol Süper Lig clash.

The Turkish champions have now provided an official injury update. Galatasaray confirmed that Osimhen has started treatment, while an MRI and further examinations will follow. The club expects to complete the examinations on Saturday.

Galatasaray issue official injury update

Galatasaray announced the development through their official X account on Saturday. The club also included Monaco midfielder Mario Lemina in the medical update after he experienced a similar issue.

The statement read:

“Advanced examinations, including MRI, for our players Victor Osimhen and Mario Lemina, in whom strain and pain were detected in the right adductor (groin) muscle group during yesterday’s Başakşehir FK match in the 4th week of Trendyol Super Lig, and whose treatments have begun, will be completed tomorrow.”

The statement confirms the location of Osimhen’s injury. It also confirms that his treatment has already started.

However, Galatasaray have not yet announced the severity of the problem. The upcoming examinations should provide more information about the striker’s condition.

Osimhen injured after scoring

Osimhen picked up the injury after making an impact against Başakşehir. He opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a powerful effort from outside the box.

The goal continued his excellent start to the campaign. He had already scored five goals and provided two assists in his first three league appearances.

His latest strike took his league tally to six goals. However, his evening ended early as he left the pitch in the 33rd minute.

Barış Alper Yılmaz replaced the Nigerian forward as Galatasaray continued without their leading striker.

Nigeria await further update

The timing of the injury could concern Nigeria. The Super Eagles will begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign later this month.

Nigeria are scheduled to face Madagascar on September 25. Four days later, they will travel to face Guinea-Bissau.

Osimhen’s availability for those fixtures will depend on his medical assessment. At this stage, there is no confirmed timeline for his return.

Galatasaray’s MRI results should provide the next major update. Until then, both club and country will wait for a clearer picture of the injury.

For now, the confirmed information is straightforward. Osimhen has a right adductor injury, treatment has begun, and further examinations are scheduled for Saturday.
