Players and officials of Benin Republic have arrived in Nigeria ahead of their opening Group C fixture for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) qualifiers against the Super Eagles on Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
Led by former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr, the Cheetahs aim to capitalize on his in-depth knowledge of Nigerian players when they face off. Benin had been training in Abidjan, their adopted base for AFCON and World Cup qualifiers.

While Nigeria is favored to win and secure all three points, they must remain vigilant, especially after Benin’s recent 2-1 victory in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, highlighting their potential threat.
The Cheetahs are set to hold their only training session at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Friday, following international standards. Their early arrival will give them time to adjust to the Nigerian climate.
This marks Gernot Rohr’s first visit to Nigeria since his dismissal in 2021. The Franco-German coach managed the Super Eagles from 2016 to 2021, guiding them to the 2018 World Cup.
