Victor Osimhen lamented Galatasaray’s missed opportunities that denied them a full three points in their 1-1 UEFA Europa League clash against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday night at the AFAS Stadion in the Netherlands.
The Turkish side suffered an early setback when Sven Mijnans gave the hosts the lead in just the second minute. However, Osimhen’s effort in the 43rd minute appeared to level the score, only for the goal to later be credited as an own goal by Peer Koopmeiners.
Despite dominating possession (60%) and recording a significant edge in attempts (19-5), Galatasaray struggled to capitalize on their opportunities and had to settle for a draw. The result keeps them unbeaten in the competition and brings them closer to securing an automatic spot in the Round of 16.
Reflecting on the match, Osimhen expressed disappointment over the missed opportunities but highlighted the positives from the team’s performance.
“Obviously, we had a good performance tonight. The team we faced is also strong, both individually and collectively,” Osimhen said post-match.
“We created many chances and could have scored a second goal. Still, we have to take the positives—this is an important point. I also want to thank our fans. They braved the weather and supported us for the full 90 minutes, and we are very grateful for their unwavering support.”
