…Eagles Saviour Godwin’s goal not enough for Al Akhdoud
Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong delivered an impressive performance for Al Kholood in their 2-1 away victory over Al Akhdoud in a Saudi Pro League match, ending the team’s eight-game winless streak across all competitions.
Nigeria international Saviour Godwin scored in the 62nd minute to equalize after Myziane Maolida’s 25th-minute penalty had put Al Akhdoud ahead. Bassem Al Arini sealed the dramatic win for Al Kholood with a decisive 95th-minute goal.
Troost-Ekong played the entire match and was instrumental in maintaining defensive solidity, ensuring the hosts couldn’t add to their tally and keeping Al Kholood in contention before their late winner.
After the game, Al Kholood manager Noureddine Zekri expressed his delight with the hard-fought victory.
“I’m very happy with this win—it’s a well-deserved result for us. We’ve been chasing a win like this for several rounds,” the Algerian coach remarked. “In the past two matches, mistakes cost us despite deserving to win. This week, we worked hard, even with injuries, and I always emphasize the strength of the group over individuals.”
Zekri also highlighted the challenges faced during the game. “We missed many chances in the first half, and after they equalized, our performance dipped slightly. But we immediately responded and secured the three points.”
