Striker Paul Onuachu is a doubt for Trabzonspor’s second Turkish Super Lig fixture against Kasimpasa on Monday after sustaining a mild strain to the external lateral ligament in his right knee during their opening match against newcomers Kocaelispor, Bold Sports reports.

The Nigeria international was the hero of the game, scoring the only goal with a well-placed header in the 49th minute to hand the Claret-Blues a winning start to their 2025/26 campaign.

However, Onuachu’s availability for the next match is uncertain after he missed Thursday’s training session alongside compatriot Anthony Nwakaeme, who is sidelined for up to two months with a hamstring injury, and winger Oleksandr Zubkov, who also picked up a knock in the season opener.

“The team warmed up during this period and then moved on to tactical work,” according to 61saat.com.

“Anthony Nwakaeme, Paul Onuachu, and Zubkov, who are both injured, were absent from training. Onuachu reportedly suffered a mild strain to the external lateral ligament in his right knee.”

The club has confirmed Nwakaeme’s injury and stated that treatment is already underway to aid his recovery. While Onuachu’s setback may not be as severe as initially feared, the Super Eagles striker will undergo further medical assessment to determine the extent of the damage.

Fans will be hoping for positive news, as losing the Super Eagles striker would mean Trabzonspor will be without three of their starters from the win over Kocaelispor for their upcoming league clash.
