Super Eagles fullback Ola Aina is stepping up his recovery from the hamstring surgery he underwent in September, Bold Sports reports.

Aina sustained the injury while on international duty with the Super Eagles during their 1-1 draw against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana. Since then, he has missed several games for club and country but is now nearing a return to action.

On Thursday, the fullback shared some pictures on his official Instagram page with the caption “Getting there”, indicating that he has returned to the grass and is training well in a positive development for both Nigeria and Nottingham Forest.

In his absence, Nottingham Forest have been unable to replicate their form of last season. The club have had three coaches this season, with Nuno Espírito Santo and Ange Postecoglou sacked while Sean Dyche is currently in the dugout.

While they’ve been able to pick up some points in recent weeks, Nottingham Forest still sit 19th on the Premier League table with nine points in 11 games. In the Europa League, they are 23rd in the league phase standings with five points in four games.

For the Super Eagles, head coach Eric Chelle has had to deploy several options in right back due to Aina’s absence including young defender Benjamin Fredrick. Nonetheless, Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup hopes were ended after they lost to DR Congo on penalties in their CAF playoff final at Morocco.

Despite the positive development, it is still uncertain if Aina will be fit for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. A more realistic return date to competitive action will be in January 2026.
