Ligue 1 club OGC Nice have completed the signing of Nigeria-eligible forward Kevin Carlos Omoruyi from Swiss side FC Basel on a five-year deal, Bold Sports reports.

Nice moved for attacking reinforcements following the departure of Evann Guessand to Aston Villa and the exit of 31-year-old Gaëtan Laborde, who contributed 11 goals and four assists in 28 league appearances last season.

Kevin Carlos Omoruyi arrives after an impressive campaign with Basel, where he scored 15 goals and registered two assists in 40 appearances across all competitions. He had also found the net once in four games this season before sealing his switch to France.

Speaking after the move, the 24-year-old forward expressed his excitement about joining the Ligue 1 outfit.

“I’m very happy to be joining OGC Nice,” said Omoruyi

“It’s an ambitious club. I’m eager to explore the Allianz Riviera, meet the supporters, and get to know my new teammates. I’m coming with desire, determination, and the goal of helping the team go as far as possible.”

Nice director of football, Florian Maurice, described the new signing as a versatile and modern striker.

“What attracted us was his profile as a modern centre-forward: powerful, capable of playing as a support or attacking deep,” said Maurice. “He has a great presence in duels, both on the ground and in the air. He is right-footed but can finish with both feet, which is a valuable asset.”

General manager Fabrice Bocquet also praised Omoruyi’s consistency and mentality, “He fits the profile we were looking for up front, with good consistency in his performances over the past two seasons,” Bocquet noted.

“Beyond his obvious physical qualities, Kevin exudes real mental strength. He is combative, very involved in work without the ball, and has a mindset focused on effort and teamwork.”
