In-form Super Eagles forward Nathan Tella scored his first Bundesliga goal of the 2025/26 season as Bayer Leverkusen cruised to a commanding 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig at the BayArena.

Tella, who had already provided two assists in his previous four league appearances, delivered another impressive performance from the start. The Nigerian attacker set up Czech striker Patrik Schick for Leverkusen’s opening goal in the 25th minute before getting on the scoresheet himself just before halftime, finishing from close range in the 45th minute to net his first league goal of the campaign.

Schick, who was in sensational form, completed his hat-trick with further goals in the 76th and 89th minutes. RB Leipzig’s Christoph Baumgartner pulled one back in the 80th minute, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation as Leverkusen comfortably sealed all three points.

The victory sees Bayer Leverkusen move above VfB Stuttgart into fourth place, significantly boosting their push for a UEFA Champions League spot next season.

Tella’s contribution now stands at one goal and six assists in 17 appearances across the league this season, underlining his growing influence in Xabi Alonso’s side. The Nigeria international has now featured in Leverkusen’s starting XI in each of their last five Bundesliga matches.

Despite his recent resurgence, the 26-year-old’s campaign has been heavily disrupted by injuries. Tella missed the opening seven matches of the season due to a knee bruise and was later sidelined for another eight games with a foot injury, limiting his overall appearances.

Now back to full fitness, Tella appears to be rediscovering his rhythm at a crucial stage of the season as Leverkusen intensify their fight for a top-four finish.
