Sporting Lagos will be hoping to book a spot in the semi-finals of the ongoing Naija Super 8 tournament when they face in-form Katsina United in their final Group A game at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos later today.
The new Lagos landlords have impressed in the competition amassing four points from two games against CAF Champions League-bound Remo Stars (2-1 win) and a goalless draw against Enyimba in their opening game. With four points, the team’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals are high but will need a win against Katsina to guarantee their spot.
Sporting, Remo, and Katsina are all on four points after two games while Enyimba have just one point. Katsina United have impressed in the competition as well, recording a draw against Remo Stars and grabbing a 1-0 win over Enyimba to put the top of the table.
Speaking ahead of the all-important game, Sporting Lagos head coach, Paul Offor, says his ward isn’t getting carried away by the recent results but is working to reach the semis, he has also identified the threats Katsina United will pose to his side.
“They have a very experienced coach and really good players. They can play long and they can play short and they know how to punish any team with possession, long balls and on the counter. So we have to take all these things into consideration as we prepare and approach the game,” Offer in a statement on the club’s website.
“We’re very happy to be in this position, and we’re working hard to make sure we give a good account of ourselves and qualify for the semi-finals.”
