Moffi’s brace fires Lorient to second Ligue 1 victory

Terem Moffi scored a brace to inspire Lorient to a 2-1 win over 10-man Clermont Foot in their French Ligue 1 match on Sunday at Stade du Moustoir.

The goals were Moffi’s firsts of the season in his third appearance for the club. Moffi opened the scoring for Lorient from the penalty spot in the 24th minute while making it 2-0 in the 41st minute. Maxime Gonalons scored what will serve as a consolation goal for the visitors in the 62nd minute.

The Nigeria international who put in a Man of the Match performance made way for brahima Kone in the 73rd minute. His Super Eagles teammate, Innocent Bonke, made a cameo appearance in the win coming on forEnzo Le Fee in the 82nd minute to provide defensive cover for his side.

The win is Lorient’s second of the season in three games. A bright start for the team who had battled relegation in their last two seasons in the league. They will be hoping to continue their impressive performance when they face Lens away from home on Wednesday. Lens are currently second on the league table with three wins from four league games and one draw.

The game will be their first real test this season. Lorient will however be banking on their impressive performance against Lens last season where they recorded one win and a draw with Moffi scoring in their first meeting which ended 2-2.
