Super Eagles forward, Moses Simon, inspired Nantes to a 3-1 comeback win over Toulouse in their French Ligue 1 encounter on Sunday at the Beaujoire Stadium.
The game is their fourth game of the season. Toulouse had taken the lead in the 15th minute through defender Zakaria Aboukhlal, as they took the lead into half time.
Nantes came out from the dressing room smoking as Evann Guessand restored parity for the hosts in the 50th minute after being assisted by Simon. Mostafa Mohamed gave the hosts the lead five minutes later while Simon also got his name on the scoresheet in the 63rd minute to help his side earn their first win of the season. The goal was Simon’s second of the season for Nantes. having scored in Nantes 1-1 draw against Lille in a 1-1 draw.
The 27-year-old scored six goals and provided eight assists for the Ligue 1 side in the 2021/22 season and will be hoping to improve those statistics should he stay at the club.
Simon has been a subject of a move to the Premier League but with just a few days left to the end of the summer transfer window, Nantes manager, Antoine Kombouaré, says he is hopeful the club will retain the energetic Nigerian winger as well as some of the team’s key players.
“I say it and I repeat it: no departure! It obviously concerns Ludo ‘(Blas) but also Alban (Lafont) and Moses (Simon),” Kombouaré told the club website.
“It’s the President who holds the finances. I’m only a trainer and if he decides otherwise… I have four attackers. Maybe if we had had eight attackers, I would have said “why not” to Ludo ‘(Blas) and Moses (Simon). But do you think that I am working to weaken my team or to reduce the number.”
