Iwobi has strong mentality – Sean Dyche

Everton manager, Sean Dyche, has hailed the strong mentality of Nigeria international, Alex Iwobi, something he would hope the Super Eagles star can replicate when they travel to the AMEX Stadium to face in-form Brighton on Monday night.

The Toffees, currently 19th on the Premier League log are looking to avoid relegation and will face off against Brighton who are coming off a remarkable last minute 1-0 victory over Manchester United in their mid-week clash at home.

Everton got a 2-2 draw against fellow relegation-threatened Leicester City during their midweek game and the Nigerian was on target fighting back to correct his mistake that led to the Foxes getting their second goal of the encounter through Jamie Vardy.

His performance in the game game against Leicester has led to him getting accolades from Dyche who spoke to the press ahead of the game on Monday.

“Iwobi’s work ethic is terrific, his show of ability at times is terrific, and to react to a mistake like he did and to go and score a goal shows his mentality.

“He is a very good player. It was similar to Dom, Dom missed a chance and he sets up Alex. That is the mentality you want, you can’t do anything once it has gone, once it’s gone it’s gone. You can reflect on it afterwards but not during the game. I think that is a strong sign of people’s mentality – if they do make a mistake, how quickly they recover. Both of those players recovered very, very quickly.”

A win for Everton against Brighton will see them move out of the relegation zone and go two points ahead of Leeds United who are currently on 30 points and have played a game more compared to the Toffees who have 29 points from 34 games.

Iwobi has been one of the most outstanding players for the Toffees this season despite their lacklustre showing this campaign.
