Rwandan players have praised new head coach Adel Amrouche after completing a number of training sessions under the Algerian manager, expressing confidence that he is the right man to elevate the team.
Amrouche was appointed earlier this month, replacing German coach Torsten Spittler, who failed to secure Rwanda a spot in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco this December.
Despite Spittler’s shortcomings in the AFCON qualifiers, he left the team in a promising position for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Rwanda currently tops their group on goal difference, with two wins, one draw, and one loss.
Following their initial training sessions with Amrouche, the players have described him as the “real deal,” believing he has the expertise to guide the team to new heights.
“What I believe is that he is a good coach—his communication, his approach to training, everything. We are happy to have him, and with his methods, we trust we’ll get good results in the next two matches,” said midfielder Kevin Muhire.
Amrouche brings a wealth of managerial experience, having coached several national teams, including Libya, Kenya, Burundi, Botswana, Yemen, and, most recently, Tanzania. He is widely recognized for his tactical acumen and ability to maximize player potential.
Midfielder Bosco Ruboneka is particularly excited to work under a coach with such vast experience, noting Amrouche’s humility and strong leadership.
“He introduced himself to us, we had a chat, and he clearly outlined his expectations. He communicated his ambitions and started us off with simple drills since it was our first session. We appreciate not only his humility but also his ability to transform players’ mindsets,” Ruboneka said.
Another midfielder, Steve Rubanguka, believes Rwanda can only improve under the new gaffer.
“He has a great approach to working with players, and I believe he will take us to another level. With his past coaching experience, he has what it takes to elevate our game,” Rubanguka added.
The Amavubi are billed to take on the Super Eagles on Friday, March 21st at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali before also welcoming Lesotho to the same gound four days later.
