Cyriel Dessers scored for the second consecutive game as Panathinaikos cruised to a commanding 5-1 victory over Asteras Tripolis in their Greek Super League clash on Sunday.
The Super Eagles striker, who also scored the opener in Panathinaikos’ 2-1 Conference League victory over Borac, continued his impressive form as the Greek giants recorded their sixth win in seven league matches this season.
Panathinaikos dominated proceedings in the first half and took a deserved two-goal lead into the break. Stefan de Vrij opened the scoring in the 27th minute before Imrân Louza doubled the hosts’ advantage just four minutes later.
Asteras Tripolis attempted to mount a comeback after the restart, with substitute Antonis Papakanellos pulling one back in the 60th minute to reduce the deficit to 2-1.

However, Panathinaikos responded almost immediately, with Dessers restoring their two-goal cushion just two minutes later to make it 3-1 and put the hosts firmly in control of the contest.
The home side continued to dominate in the closing stages, as Davide Calabria extended their lead to 4-1 in the 72nd minute before Andrews Tetteh completed the rout with a fifth goal in the 83rd minute.
The emphatic victory keeps Panathinaikos top of the Greek Super League standings with 18 points from seven matches, two points clear of second-placed Olympiacos. Meanwhile, Asteras Tripolis remain 11th with five points after suffering their fourth defeat of the campaign.
Panathinaikos will now turn their attention to the UEFA Conference League, where they are scheduled to travel to Kazakhstan to face Kairat Almaty on Thursday, October 22.
Asteras Tripolis, meanwhile, will hope to return to winning ways when they host Levadiakos on Saturday.
