The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has handed down a series of disciplinary measures against Algeria following a turbulent Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 encounter against Nigeria on January 10, 2026.

The decisions were reached after the CAF Disciplinary Board reviewed incidents that occurred during and after the high-profile fixture.

‎‎At player level, goalkeeper Luca Zidane has been ruled out of Algeria’s next two CAF competitive matches after being found guilty of misconduct. Defender Rafik Belghali received a four-match suspension for aggressive and intimidating conduct toward the match referee at the final whistle.

However, CAF suspended two of those matches on probation for a one-year period, effective from the date of the ruling.‎‎

The Algerian Football Federation was also hit with substantial financial penalties stemming from both on-field indiscipline and crowd-related misconduct.

CAF imposed a $5,000 fine after the Algerian team accumulated five yellow cards, breaching Article 130(a) of the CAF Disciplinary Code.‎‎

Further sanctions followed incidents after the match, with Algeria fined $25,000 for the actions of its players and officials, which CAF said brought the game into disrepute, contrary to Articles 82 and 83 of the code.

‎‎Supporter behavior also attracted punishment. CAF fined Algeria $5,000 each for the use of smoke devices and for throwing objects, while an additional $10,000 was issued for lapses in security after fans attempted to breach barriers.

The most severe penalty, $50,000, was imposed on the north Africans for offensive and abusive gestures (displaying banknotes) committed by its supporters towards the match officials.‎‎
