Millwall manager Alex Neil has provided an update on Femi Azeez after the Nigerian forward reported a hamstring issue during the 2-0 win over Bristol City, Bold Sports reports.
Azeez enjoyed an outstanding 2025/26 campaign, scoring 11 Championship goals and supplying seven assists in 37 appearances. He also scored twice against Oxford United on May 2, helping Millwall secure their place in the Championship play-offs.
The forward started Millwall’s opening Championship game at Ashton Gate. However, he could not continue after feeling discomfort in his hamstring.
Kyrell Lisbie replaced him after 30 minutes.

Neil remains hopeful over Azeez
Neil admitted that Millwall do not yet know the extent of the problem.
“I’m not sure,” Neil said. “He just says he felt something in his hamstring.
“We’re hoping that it’s not going to be anything significant. I don’t think it is at this stage from speaking to him, but I could’ve said that about another four players that are probably sitting at the treatment table now. I don’t want to say too much about it. We hope Femi’s fine. He’s been a talisman for us.
“The fact that I didn’t think we missed him today, I think, speaks volumes about Kyrell’s performance and the team’s performance. Hopefully he’s okay, and we’ll see where we go.”
Neil’s comments suggest that Millwall will assess Azeez further before determining his availability.
The timing could prove important for the Lions. Azeez remains one of their key attacking options after his prolific campaign last season.
His 11 league goals helped Millwall mount their promotion push. His seven assists also underlined his creative influence.
Millwall make winning start
Despite Azeez’s absence for most of the match, Millwall produced an impressive opening-day display.
Josh Coburn scored twice to settle the contest. Adam Randell’s dismissal also left Bristol City with 10 men.
Millwall eventually secured a 2-0 victory.
Lisbie also found the net late in the match. However, the goal did not count after the officials ruled him offside.
For Neil, the immediate priority now is Azeez’s recovery.
The Millwall boss will hope the hamstring problem proves minor. Azeez’s attacking numbers from last season show why his fitness matters to the team.
Further assessment should provide a clearer picture of the injury.
