Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade suffered an ankle injury during Nigeria’s 5-0 victory over Comoros in the 2028 Olympic qualifiers on Tuesday. The forward left the pitch in tears before heading straight down the tunnel, Bold Sports reports.
The injury raised concerns about the captain’s condition, with Nigeria awaiting the results of her medical assessment. Ajibade plays her club football for Paris Saint-Germain in France, and the extent of the injury remains unknown.
Eguavoen confirms Ajibade underwent MRI scan
“The medical team says they’ve taken her to the hospital for MRI, it’s an unfortunate injury. Once we have an update on the degree of the injury we will communicate”
The scan should help establish the severity of the ankle problem. However, the coach did not provide a recovery timeline or confirm how long the captain might remain unavailable.

The Super Falcons will await the medical findings before making further assessments. Until then, uncertainty surrounds Ajibade’s condition following the incident.
Injury overshadows Nigeria’s victory over Comoros
Nigeria defeated Comoros 5-0 in Ikenne, Ogun State, completing a 7-0 aggregate victory to reach the third round of the 2028 Olympic qualifiers.
Toni Payne and Uchenna Kanu scored twice each, while Christy Ucheibe added another goal. Nigeria will face Morocco in the next round, scheduled for early 2027.
However, Ajibade’s injury remains a major concern for the Super Falcons following their convincing victory.
The captain’s condition will become clearer after the medical team reviews her MRI results. Eguavoen has promised to communicate further information once the team receives an update on the extent of the injury.
