Kelechi Iheanacho scored his 12th league goal for Bursaspor, but his effort could not prevent a 2-1 home defeat to Mardin 1969 Spor in the Turkish Trendyol 1. Lig on Sunday, October 11, Bold Sports reports.
The Nigerian forward has now scored 12 goals in nine league appearances for Bursaspor. He also scored for the Super Eagles in their 3-3 international friendly draw against Russia on October 6. His latest strike continued an impressive scoring run, although Bursaspor missed the opportunity to strengthen their promotion push.
Iheanacho strikes to restore parity
Bursaspor fell behind in the 21st minute when Tonio Teklic put the visitors ahead. The hosts struggled to find an equaliser before Iheanacho stepped up late in the second half.
The former Leicester City striker found the net in the 81st minute. He unleashed a powerful left-footed shot from outside the penalty area to bring Bursaspor level at 1-1.

However, the equaliser did not secure a point for the home side. Zdravko Dimitrov struck in the 90th minute plus four to restore Mardin 1969 Spor’s lead.
The visitors held on to claim all three points. The result also ended their two-match losing streak in the league.
Kelechi Iheanacho’s latest goal followed his contribution against Russia during the international break. He opened the scoring for Nigeria in that friendly before the Super Eagles fought back to secure a draw.
The forward’s consistency has made him a key attacking figure for Bursaspor this season. His goals have helped the Turkish club maintain their position near the top of the standings.
Bursaspor remain second in the standings
Bursaspor finished the matchday in second place with 19 points from nine matches. They sit three points behind league leaders Kayserispor, who have 22 points.
The defeat represents a setback for Bursaspor’s promotion ambitions. However, Iheanacho’s continued goalscoring offers encouragement as the campaign progresses.
Bursaspor must now regroup ahead of their next league fixture against Muğlaspor. Iheanacho will look to maintain his scoring form and help the team return to winning ways.
