…Sporting Lagos to face Ikorodu City on Wednesday in Lagos derby
Barau FC continued their fairytale start to the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign, holding hosts Sporting Lagos to a 1-1 draw at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, to extend their unbeaten start to the season after six games.
Both teams came into the match on the back of impressive results. Sporting Lagos came from behind to beat Enyimba 3-2 in Aba on Wednesday, while Barau FC recorded a 2-0 home victory over Abia Warriors.
It was an intense start to the game, with both teams testing each other’s goalkeepers. Joel Ajibola had the ball in the back of the net for Sporting Lagos in the 21st minute after goalkeeper Emeka Nwabulu parried Aliyu Baba’s shot, but the goal was correctly ruled out for offside.
The visitors were awarded a penalty in the 34th minute after Stanley Oganbor was brought down inside the box. Joseph Atule stepped up and calmly converted from the spot to give Barau the lead, with the visitors taking a slender 1-0 advantage into the half-time break.

Sporting Lagos, who were yet to pick up a point at home after losing 2-0 to Abia Warriors in their first home game of the season, eventually found a way back into the contest.
Defender Sodiq Yusuf restored parity for the hosts, slotting the ball into the back of the net after Barau goalkeeper Emeka Nwabulu failed to deal with Aliyu Baba’s effort.
The result means Sporting Lagos remain without a home win after two attempts, while Barau FC maintain their unbeaten record on the road. The visitors have now picked up points away from home against Ikorodu City and Kun Khalifat, while winning all their home games so far this season.
