Tolu Arokodare has reportedly been left out of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ squad for their pre-season fixture against Maidenhead United following an alleged training-ground dispute earlier this week.
According to sports journalist Nathan Judah, Wolves cancelled Monday’s training session after Arokodare allegedly refused to leave the pitch when instructed not to train with the first-team squad.
The reason behind the decision to exclude the Nigerian forward from training remains unclear. However, Judah reported that new Wolves head coach Cesar Peixoto has adopted a firm stance on discipline and is unwilling to tolerate what he views as “player power and poor discipline levels.”
The situation reportedly escalated on Tuesday, with additional security deployed at Wolves’ Compton Park training ground to ensure Arokodare was unable to access the session.

The incident has generated widespread debate, with several observers questioning whether the club’s handling of the situation complies with recently introduced FIFA and FIFPRO regulations regarding player treatment.
Sports journalist Ojora Babatunde criticised Wolves’ approach, claiming the club may be acting in breach of the new framework.
“I’m disappointed Wolves have taken this approach. Under the new FIFPRO regulations, clubs are no longer permitted to deny a first-team player the opportunity to train with the first team or effectively force them out. It’s a breach of contract,” Babatunde wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Another X user iamajideabayomi echoed the sentiment while sharing a screenshot of the new FIFA and FIFPRO agreement.
“As succinctly explained in this screenshot, clubs can no longer do what Wolves are doing to Tolu. When clubs like a player, they want to keep him or slam an outrageous transfer fee on the player in order to scare suitors. When they don’t like the player, they pull all the dirty tricks in the book to chase the player and humiliate the player. Either way, players are always on the receiving end,” he posted.
Not everyone agreed with the criticism, however. Some Wolves supporters backed the club’s stance, with X user Richwolves64 describing Arokodare as “without doubt our worst signing ever.”
Arokodare endured a difficult debut campaign at Molineux but still finished as the club’s joint-top scorer in the Premier League, netting three goals. Across all competitions, the 25-year-old registered six goals and two assists in 38 appearances during the 2025/26 season.
Since Wolves’ relegation from the Premier League, speculation over the striker’s future has continued to grow. Although Arokodare previously indicated in an Instagram post that he would be open to remaining at the club, he has since been linked with moves to Trabzonspor, Fiorentina and Genoa.
With tensions between player and club reportedly escalating, a transfer before the close of the summer window increasingly appears to be the most likely outcome.
