West Ham United have entered the race to sign Nigerian defender Chibuike Nwaiwu after his impressive performances for Trabzonspor attracted attention from several European clubs ahead of the summer transfer window, Boldsports report.
The 22-year-old centre-back has enjoyed a rapid rise since joining the Turkish side from Austrian club Wolfsberger in January. Nwaiwu made an immediate impact at Trabzonspor, featuring in 21 matches across all competitions and helping the club secure the Turkish Cup.
Nwaiwu’s strong displays have not gone unnoticed. Fulham and Bayer Leverkusen have already been linked with the Super Eagles defender, while West Ham United have now emerged as another serious contender for his signature.
Fulham previously submitted an offer worth €20 million, but Trabzonspor rejected the proposal as they seek a significantly higher fee for one of their most valuable assets.
Meanwhile, Turkish reports suggest that West Ham are prepared to challenge both Fulham and Bayer Leverkusen in the battle for the defender. The London club are keen to strengthen their squad following relegation from the Premier League and view Nwaiwu as a player capable of improving their defensive options.

Trabzonspor remain reluctant to part with the Nigerian international unless their valuation is met. The Turkish club are reportedly demanding between €35 million and €40 million before considering a sale.
Additional reports claim that Fulham have explored a package worth around €23 million including bonuses, while other sources suggest West Ham could be willing to test Trabzonspor’s resolve with a larger offer.
Despite growing transfer speculation, Nwaiwu is not actively seeking an exit from Trabzonspor. However, the Turkish Cup winners may reconsider their position if a bid approaches their asking price.
With Fulham, Bayer Leverkusen, and now West Ham United monitoring the situation closely, the coming weeks could prove decisive in determining whether the Nigerian defender remains in Turkey or secures a major move elsewhere in Europe.
