Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina has highlighted the influence of Morgan Gibbs-White ahead of their crucial Europa League clash with Aston villa. The fixture comes at a key moment in Forest’s season, as they push to stay competitive in Europe despite an inconsistent domestic campaign.
Gibbs-White has delivered strong numbers this season. He has scored 16 goals and added six assists in 49 appearances across all competitions. He also featured prominently in Forest’s recent matches, maintaining his role as the team’s creative engine. His output has kept Forest competitive in tight games and underlined his importance in attack.
Aina did not hold back when discussing Gibbs-White’s development and overall quality within the squad.
”Morgan has the potential to be a very top player. I don’t want to put any pressure on him, but he’s the real deal. I love playing with him and I know the fans enjoy watching him. He’s just a fantastic player.”
He also pointed to the midfielder’s steady improvement both on and off the pitch.
”He’s definitely taken a massive step forward. You see what he’s producing on the football pitch and it’s amazing to see, it’s good for himself and the team. Off the pitch, Morgan’s still the same Morgan; very friendly and outgoing.”
Forest head into the clash with Villa knowing the stakes are high. Although both sides sit far apart in the standings, the quality gap appears minimal on paper.
Expectations were high for Forest this season after their seventh-place finish last term and an active transfer window. However, results have been mixed. Since the arrival of head coach , performances have started to stabilise.
Aina believes success in Europe would mark a significant achievement for the squad.
”I think that would be fantastic. Just to say you’ve contributed to something like that is something that nobody can takeaway from you. Hopefully tomorrow is another step towards that.”
Forest will rely on consistency and key performers like Gibbs-White as they chase European success, with Aina confident the team can take another important step forward against Aston Villa.
