Barau FC have officially confirmed the departure of forward Yahaya Ibrahim Suleiman after granting his request to terminate his contract, bringing an abrupt end to his time with the Kano-based side during the 2025–26 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
The club disclosed that the decision followed a formal request from the player, with the termination taking immediate effect. As a result, Suleiman now becomes a free agent, free to pursue opportunities elsewhere.
Suleiman played a measurable role in Barau FC’s campaign before his departure. The forward scored five goals in 18 league appearances, offering attacking presence across the first half of the season.
He also featured in recent fixtures against Bayelsa United and Katsina United, both of which ended in draws, showing his involvement in key match situations despite limited game time claims. His contributions added depth to the squad, particularly during a competitive NPFL schedule where consistency often defines team success.
In a detailed statement, the club addressed the wider issues surrounding the player’s conduct and eventual exit. According to General Manager Dominic Iorfa, the situation began when the player received a trial invitation from a Tunisian club addressed directly to him rather than through the club.
The letter stated: “Yahaya Ibrahim, Nigerian player with passport number… has been invited to come to Tunisia for a two weeks trials.”
Despite being advised to resolve the documentation properly, the player reportedly traveled without official approval. The club further revealed internal concerns, including directives involving Jibrin Barau, before disciplinary actions were taken.
Barau FC stated: “Barau FC has officially granted Yahaya Ibrahim Suleiman’s request for contract termination.”
With his contract now terminated, Suleiman enters the transfer market at a crucial stage of the season. Barau FC, meanwhile, reaffirmed their commitment to professionalism and contractual discipline within the squad.
