Nigeria’s Blessing Ogundiran delivered a sensational performance to win the women’s 100m at the South Florida Invitational, clocking a stunning 10.98 seconds to set a new NAIA record.

Competing in a timed final format across multiple heats, Ogundiran produced the fastest time of the day to finish top overall, smashing her previous personal best of 11.21s and emerging as one of only two women globally to break the 11-second barrier in 2026.

The Nigerian sprinter’s 10.98s, achieved in Heat 1 with a legal wind reading, stood unmatched across all heats, securing her victory in the overall standings.

UCF’s Eseroghene Awusa posted 11.40s to finish second overall, while Boston University’s Jada Smith claimed third position with a time of 11.57s. Her teammate Ijeoma Ezechukwu followed closely in fourth with 11.58s, as Olga Gomez of Southeastern University completed the top five in 11.63s.

The performance stands as the joint-fastest time in the world this season and the Nigerian lead, further underlining Ogundiran’s rapid rise in the sprinting ranks.

The time also moves Ogundiran into eighth place on Nigeria’s all-time 100m list, placing her among the country’s fastest women in history and underlining the significance of her breakthrough performance.

Across the heats, several athletes delivered strong performances, but none could match the Nigerian’s explosive speed, as she asserted her dominance with a clear margin at the top of the standings.

Ogundiran has shown steady progression from the indoor season into the outdoor campaign, and her latest performance confirms her status as one of Nigeria’s most exciting emerging talents.
