Victor Osimhen emerged as the match winner for Galatasaray after scoring the decisive goal in a tense 1–0 victory over city rivals Beşiktaş JK in Saturday’s Istanbul derby.
The clash in the Turkish Süper Lig also featured a fascinating Nigerian duel, with Osimhen leading Galatasaray’s attack while Wilfred Ndidi anchored the midfield for Beşiktaş.
The contest remained evenly balanced until the 39th minute when Osimhen found the breakthrough. The Nigerian striker connected with a cross from Leroy Sané, powering a low header past the goalkeeper to give Galatasaray the lead.
The goal proved enough to separate the two sides in what was a fiercely contested derby encounter.

The Super Eagles star had already been involved in one of the early flashpoints of the match. The striker received a yellow card inside the opening minutes after an awkward challenge on the Beşiktaş goalkeeper while attempting to reach a loose ball.
Later in the game, Sané was dismissed in the 62nd minute, forcing Galatasaray to finish the match with ten men as they held on to their advantage.
The strike was Osimhen’s 11th goal of the Süper Lig season and extended his impressive run in front of goal. The former SSC Napoli forward has now scored in three consecutive matches across all competitions for Galatasaray.

The victory strengthens Galatasaray’s position at the top of the league table as they continue their push for the Turkish title.
For Nigerian fans, the derby also highlighted the influence of two key Nigeria national football team figures on opposite sides, with Osimhen ultimately having the final say on the night.
