The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has announced it will formally appeal to both the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA following Senegal’s contentious exit from the pitch during the final of AFCON 2025.
In a statement posted on its official X account, the federation criticized Senegal’s decision to leave the field in protest against a late referee ruling, describing it as a disruption to the flow of the match that affected the performance of both teams.
Morocco emphasized that it intends to pursue the matter through the disciplinary and legal mechanisms of CAF and FIFA. The incident occurred late in the game when a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review awarded Morocco a penalty, a decision the federation noted had been upheld by football experts.

In response, Senegal’s head coach led his players off the pitch, creating chaos before play eventually resumed. Senegal went on to secure a 1‑0 victory after extra time, with Pape Gueye scoring the decisive goal.
The controversy has continued to dominate headlines, with CAF reviewing footage from the final and considering potential referrals to its disciplinary bodies.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino condemned the walk‑off, describing it as unacceptable and harmful to the sport’s integrity.

The Moroccan federation also took the opportunity to thank supporters for their encouragement throughout the tournament and expressed appreciation to organisers and security personnel for their efforts in ensuring the competition ran smoothly.
The federation stressed that pursuing legal and disciplinary measures aims to uphold the principles of fair play and maintain the credibility of African football.
