Before kickoff on Sunday night in Rabat, the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 final already carries a compelling narrative beyond tactics and formations.
At the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, Morocco and Senegal will rely on two of Africa’s most accomplished goalkeepers, Yassine Bounou and Édouard Mendy, whose influence could ultimately determine the destination of the trophy.
Finals at AFCON are often defined by caution and fine margins, and this contest appears no different. With chances expected to be limited, the spotlight falls on experience, command and decisive interventions between the posts.

For the hosts, Bounou has produced an exceptional campaign. The 34-year-old has registered five clean sheets in six matches, conceding only a penalty against Mali, and sent Nigeria out in the semi-finals by saving two penalties.
His résumé includes Morocco’s historic run to the 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finals, Europa League titles with Sevilla, the La Liga Zamora Trophy, a CAF Champions League crown with Wydad Casablanca, and African Goalkeeper of the Year honours in 2023 and 2025, alongside 89 caps.

Mendy, 33, offers proven success. The Senegal international was Goalkeeper of the Tournament in the 2021 AFCON triumph over Egypt, is appearing in his third final, has four clean sheets, two goals conceded, 58 caps, and won the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea in 2021.
Both now play in Saudi Arabia, where constant pressure has sharpened their edge.
