Tunisia have parted ways with head coach Sami Trabelsi following their abrupt exit from the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Carthage Eagles bowed out in the round of 16 after a 3–2 penalty shootout defeat to Mali on Saturday, following a 1–1 draw in the Round of 16 at Casablanca’s Mohammed V Stadium.
Despite enjoying a numerical advantage for over an hour, Tunisia struggled to convert opportunities, conceding a late goal that forced extra time and eventually a penalty shootout defeat.
The loss prompted swift action from the Tunisian Football Federation, which announced the sacking of head coach Sami Trabelsi just hours after the defeat.

Trabelsi, who took charge in February 2025 and recently led Tunisia to World Cup qualification, could not steer the team past Mali, ending hopes for a deep AFCON run.
Trabelsi’s departure marks the start of a rebuilding phase for Tunisia, as the federation searches for a new coach to restore confidence in the national team.
The Carthage Eagles now face the challenge of regrouping ahead of upcoming international fixtures, aiming to bounce back stronger and reclaim their status among Africa’s elite sides.
