Calvin Bassey believes Fulham will be able to cope with the absence of their Super Eagles players who have been called up to represent Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Fulham are among the clubs most affected by the tournament, which runs from December 21 to January 18, with Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi and Samuel Chukwueze all selected to represent Nigeria.
Bassey and Iwobi are regular starters for the Cottagers, while Chukwueze has recently established himself in the starting lineup after hitting fine form. The winger has contributed two goals and three assists in his last five games, helping Fulham secure three wins in that run.

Bassey scored his first goal of the season in Fulham’s 3–2 victory over Burnley on Saturday and could have added a second, while Chukwueze also registered an assist in the encounter and might have had more.
When asked whether Fulham would feel their absence during AFCON, Bassey expressed confidence in the depth of the squad, stressing that the team has enough quality to cope.
“We just try to give our best and we’re fortunate to be playing,” Bassey said after the game. “If you see our squad, you’d know we have amazing players. We’ll be missed, but they’ll be fine.”

The Nigeria international also admitted he was delighted to get back on the scoresheet after a long goal drought.
“I enjoyed the goal a lot. I haven’t scored for a long time,” he added. “I’ve been working on celebrations, but I hadn’t had a goal in a while, so I was really happy to get one.”
The trio are expected to arrive at the Super Eagles’ camp by Monday to begin preparations for the AFCON.
