Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey scored his first goal of the season while winger Samuel Chukwueze continued his impressive form by providing an assist as Fulham secured a 3-2 victory over Burnley in their Premier League clash on Saturday.

Bassey and Chukwueze alongside midfielder Iwobi all started for the Cottagers for the second straight game, and the trio proved crucial as Marco Silva’s side grabbed just their second away league win of the season.

Emile Smith Rowe opened the scoring for Fulham in the ninth minute, slotting the ball into the back of the net after Burnley’s defense failed to clear Harry Wilson’s delivery into the box. Burnley, however, leveled the scoreline in the 21st minute, with Lesley Ugochukwu getting his third goal of the season after a brilliant assist from Josh Cullen.

10 minutes after the equaliser, Burnley slept off in defense once again, failing to deal with another Harry Wilson delivery which was headed into the net by Calvin Bassey, making the scoreline 2-1 to the frustration of the home supporters.

Marco Silva’s side extended their lead 13 minutes into the second half as Chukwueze dribbled into Burnley’s box before squaring the ball to Wilson, who curled his finish into the bottom-left corner, making it 3-1. The assist marked Chukwueze’s fourth of the season, more than any other Fulham player.

Burnley pulled a goal back in the 86th minute as Oliver Sonne netted his first goal of the season. However, his late strike was unable to spur a comeback, with Fulham holding on to secure all three points.

The victory sees Marco Silva’s side climb up to 13th on the Premier League table with 20 points while Burnley remain 19th with 10 points.

Up next for Fulham is an EFL Cup clash against Newcastle on Wednesday. They will have to play that game and subsequent matches without Chukwueze, Bassey and Iwobi who will now join up with the Super Eagles as they begin their preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
