Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade opened her goal account for Paris Saint-Germain Féminines, but her effort was not enough to prevent a 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid in their UEFA Women’s Champions League encounter on Thursday night, Bold Sports reports.

PSG went into the match desperate to bounce back from a heavy 4-0 defeat to Wolfsburg in their opening fixture. However, it was Real Madrid who made the brighter start, taking the lead in the 29th minute through Naomie Feller as the French winger finished off a low cross from Yasmim Ribeiro after sustained pressure from the visitors.

Real Madrid then doubled their advantage shortly before halftime when Caroline Weir’s effort came off the post, allowing Alba Redondo to slot home the rebound and make it 2-0 heading into the break.

PSG showed greater urgency in the second half, and their persistence paid off in the 62nd minute as Ajibade rose highest to head home Sakina Karchaoui’s brilliant cross, halving the deficit and sparking hopes of a comeback.

However, despite a late surge from the French side, Madrid’s defense held firm to secure their second win of the league phase and maintain their perfect record in the competition so far.

For PSG, the defeat marks a second consecutive loss in Europe, leaving them under pressure to revive their campaign when they face Manchester United in their next Champions League outing.
