Four-time FIBA Women’s Afrobasket champion Ezinne Kalu is giving back to her community by sponsoring a young female basketball player in Nigeria with $500.
Kalu, who was instrumental in Nigeria’s fifth consecutive Women’s Afrobasket title after scoring a game-high 20 points in their 78-64 win over Mali at the Palais des Sports Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, is offering the grant to players between the ages of 12 and 18, provided they are based in Nigeria.

The 33-year-old, who is committed to developing the next generation of homegrown basketball stars, announced the opportunity via her social media handles.
“I’m sponsoring one (1) young hooper in Nigeria with $500 to help push your basketball dreams forward! If you’ve got heart, hustle, and a love for the game, this is your shot.”
Applicants must send a direct message to Kalu on Instagram explaining why they deserve the sponsorship, either through a short video or a written message. They must also share a video of themselves playing basketball.
The deadline for submissions is August 22. Send DM here.
