Valencia have decided against making Sadiq Umar’s loan move permanent, despite the Nigerian forward’s impressive impact since arriving from Real Sociedad in January.
Sadiq has played a key role in Valencia’s push to stay competitive in LaLiga, scoring six goals in 16 appearances and helping the club avoid relegation fears. But Spanish outlet Marca reports that Valencia will not trigger the €9 million buy option in his contract, citing financial constraints and other priorities.
The club had paid €500,000 to secure the loan and agreed to three additional performance-based clauses. Two of those have already been activated — one for Valencia’s survival in LaLiga, and another for Sadiq staying fit and available for at least 60% of the minutes. Each clause cost an additional €500,000, meaning Real Sociedad have pocketed €1.5 million so far.

The only clause that wasn’t triggered was the €300,000 “fear clause,” which would have been paid if Sadiq had featured against his parent club.
Valencia have also agreed to pay his full salary during the loan spell. Altogether, Real Sociedad have saved on wages and boosted Sadiq’s value ahead of the summer transfer window, where interest from Middle Eastern clubs has already been reported.
Since joining Valencia, Sadiq has played 861 minutes across 16 matches, starting 9, and scoring 6 goals from 17 shots — a sharp turnaround from his goalless run earlier in the season with Real Sociedad, where he played 11 matches without finding the net.

Despite his contributions, Valencia are unwilling to spend €9 million to keep him. As it stands, Sadiq is expected to return to Real Sociedad this summer unless a new offer arrives.
