Werder Bremen have officially confirmed the signing of Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface from Bayer Leverkusen on a loan deal until June 2026, the Bundesliga club announced on Monday evening.

The 24-year-old Nigerian forward completed his medical on Monday before finalising the move, with Werder Bremen covering part of his salary as part of the agreement. The move is expected to provide a significant boost to Bremen’s attacking options following a difficult start to the season.

Peter Niemeyer, Werder Bremen’s head of professional football, expressed delight at completing the deal: “We are pleased that we were able to complete the loan and secure Victor’s services. He has shown outstanding performances in the Bundesliga and proven his qualities. We are convinced that he can continue that with us.”

Head coach Horst Steffen also praised the qualities Boniface brings to the squad, backing him to play a key role this season: “Victor is physically incredibly strong, has a very good finish, and good pace. He shone as a goalscorer and assist provider in Bayer Leverkusen’s championship-winning season. I’m sure he can become a key player in our group this season.”

Boniface equally expressed his excitement about the move and stated his eagerness to make an immediate impact: “The discussions with those in charge convinced me to make the move to Werder Bremen. I want to contribute with my performances to helping us achieve our common goals this season. I’m looking forward to my new team and my time at Werder Bremen.”

Boniface enjoyed an impressive debut campaign in Germany under Xabi Alonso, scoring 21 goals and providing nine assists to help Leverkusen secure their first-ever Bundesliga title. Last season, he followed that up with 11 goals and one assist in 27 appearances.
