Super Falcons forward Francisca Ordega has reiterated that the team is focused on securing a win in their final group stage fixture against Algeria at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Sunday, Bold Sports reports.

Nigeria have already booked their place in the quarterfinals following back-to-back victories over Tunisia and Botswana, both of which they achieved without conceding a goal.

Despite their early qualification, a win over Algeria would see the Falcons finish top of their group, which could set up a tantalizing quarterfinal with Zambia — the same side that edged Nigeria in the third-place match of the previous edition in 2022.

“Winning of course! We just wanna win,” Ordega told Victor Ademola when asked what fans should expect from the team’s final group outing.

“This will boost our confidence going into the quarterfinals. We are not taking any game for granted, we are just going to go out, have fun and win.”

With a spot in the knockouts already secured, head coach Justin Madugu may use the Algeria match as an opportunity to rotate the squad and hand more playing time to players making their WAFCON debuts.

So far, six players have featured in the tournament for the first time, with Esther Okoronkwo and Rinsola Babajide standing out due to their impactful performances in the opening two games.

“They’re excited being here, everyone is excited,” Ordega said when speaking about the atmosphere in the camp and the experience for the debutants.

“Who won’t be excited wearing Nigeria’s jersey? It’s every woman’s or man’s dream to represent their country. I think they’re happy and they’re willing to win their first trophy with the team.”
